For the first time, cricket became part of Rocca Al Mare School’s Sports Day, thanks to an invite from the school’s head of sport, a former Olympic triple jump champion, Jaak Uudmäe. Martin, Tim H, Tim F, Andres, Anil (looking very impressive, dressed in full whites…) and Mike T, went through a quick presentation on how cricket is played and then we went out onto their sports field to go through some cricket lessons and play acouple of cricket games. They were quick to pick up on the basics of cricket, stealing quick singles when the ball went past the keeper, as well as rearranging the field depending on the batsman and their shot selection. Most impressive was the bowling and fielding with many of these new cricket players quickly adapting to the game.
The school has fantastic facilities, both indoors and outdoors and it is a perfect place to develop cricket. Jaak and other Physical Education teachers showed a keen interest in cricket; they welcomed Eesti Kriket’s support and are very keen to get the school pupils playing in the new school term.
We also took the opportunity to invite the school to the inaugural Inter-school Tournament to be held on 23 September at the Hipodroom.
