The second match of the tournament was to be against fellow Eastern Europeans, The Czech Republic. Little was known of the team other than that they had already proven their worth against the Russian team dispatching them in the morning’s earlier game.
Within the space of 3 hours, the nimble fingers of Tim Heath yet again conjured up a winning toss, and with Estonia striding with bat to the wicket, a similar performance to the previous game was again the target.
Faith was kept with the opening partnership, and Anil Puri this time in the runs with a steady 21. However top score of 30 from Tim Heath was matched by 30 extras as the Czech team failed to press home a steady bowling display.
With Estonia finishing the innings on 123, it seemed as if the door was left well a-jar for the Czech team to record their first ever win over the Baltic team. However tight and effective bowling (Barry 3-19 off 4 overs, Govind 3-20 off 4) seemed to set the seal on victory. However the defining moment of the match came when Manjeet was bowled in the penultimate over, and the following batsman failed to continue the momentum that their fellow team mate had created.
The victory came none too soon for the Estonian team who had completed two matches in one day. Credit should be given to all those who played and to the concentration of the fielders who performed in exemplary fashion.
