Match Report: Estonian XI v HMAS Illustrius XI
British Royal Navy 83/10 (batted first)

Estonia 83/7

Estonia won by 3 wickets

After a preseason opener which Estonia won comfortably, the navy was going to be a challenge for the Estonian team.

Jason captained the Estonian side and elected to bowl.

Navy innings:
James and Siva opened the estonian bowling.  Both the openers seemed to be struggling against the 2 quickies and just managed the steal the occasional single.  James had 2 batsmen bowled and ended with figures of 4-0-8-2 and Siva got another batsman out bowled and ended with figures of 4-0-10-1.

Vineeth and Guy Berger took over after 8 overs.  The naval team captain attacked both these bowlers who and ended up hitting 4 sixes.  Eventually he was bolwed by Berger who ended up getting 2 wickets.  Vineeth was unlucky not to get an obvious caught behind and ended with figures of 4-0-25-1.  Jason replaced Vineeth and Mike took over from Berger.  Jason was on a hattrick of his first 2 balls both lbw.  The Estonian captain was sporting enough to call back a batsman who was given out to a dubious lbw decision, though he didnt last much longer, falling victim to Mike who ended with 2 wickets.  5 wickets fell for 24 runs and the naval team was bowled out for 83.

Estonian innings:
Robin and Vineeth opened the innings,  Robin was out in a strange manner the bowl hitting the leg stump and taking the off stump bails.  Tim replaced him an went about in his aggressive style hitting the bowler for a 4 straight back over his head, as well as aonther one guided over the 1st slip's head.  He eventually was bowled to a beauty of a delivery from the opening bowler (Mr Pittrice).  James replaced Tim.  Pittrice was bowling beautifully.

Both Vineeth and James had to somehow survive his new ball attack.  But that was not to be, Vineeth was bowled by Pittrice for 4. Jason took over from Vineeth and had quite an hostile reception, a short one straight into his wrist, followed by an yorker which cleaned up his stumps.  Estonia seemed in a spot of bother at 21/4.  But Siva and James guided the innings making 19 and 15 respectively.

Siva fell to a caught and bowled, James to an lbw.  Mike came in making double figures,  Oliver went after the bowling hitting 2 boundaries and retired.  Then it was up to Martin and Mike to finish of the match but Mike fell when the score was 81.  Newcomer, Andreas finished of the innings in style scoring the first runs of his career.

In the end the match proved that cricket is a team sport not about individual talent.  The Navy had a devastating bowler Pittrice who took 4 wickets but no one to back him up while Estonia played as a solid unit and won the match.

Man of the match James.
